Instruments of a Vodou Ceremony
Currently, Vodou ceremonial drummers typically utilize two sets of drums: the Rada and the Petwo, names related to the two most often performed ceremonies, to perform all rythyms, including those that fall outside of the Rada and Petwo catgegories.
Pictured above are Rada drums from Jacmel, Haiti. It is carved wood covered with cow-skin attached with pegs. Left to right we pictured is the Manman, Segan, and Boula. Interestingly, we can see the image of a large heart along with images of crosses and daggers, which ties into the Roman Catholicism adapted by Vodou worshippers.
Pictured above we can see Petwo drums. They are carved wood covered with goat-skin attached with ropes. Left to right we see a Manman or Baka, Kata, and the Ti-Baka.
